Colon cancer is preventable, treatable and beatable!

DID YOU KNOW?

  • CRC is the 2nd leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States in men and women combined.
  • African-Americans are diagnosed with CRC more often than any other ethnic group.
  • People with pre-existing conditions such as type 2 diabetes, obesity have a 27% greater chance of developing CRC.
  • CRC can develop without any symptoms.
  • CRC is the most preventable cancer. In 90% of the cases, CRC is treatable if screened on time.
  • Everyone over the age of 50 should get a CRC screening test called colonoscopy.

HOW TO TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR COLON HEALTH:

  • Talk with your family about their medical history – learn the genetic factors.
  • Eat healthy: fibers (fruits and vegetables), lean meats (turkey, chicken), whole grains.
  • Drink low-fat drinks.
  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Make a “no-smoking” rule in your home.
  • Limit the alcohol.
  • Monitor your bathroom habits.
  • Walk for 30 mins daily, exercise.
  • Maintain a healthy weight.
  • Talk to your / a healthcare provider
  • Get screened!
